What is High Tech Kids?
High Tech Kids is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit that supports the Minnesota Renewable Energy Challenge each spring, Minnesota JuniorFIRST® LEGO® League, FIRST® LEGO® League, and FIRST® Tech Challenge each fall/winter. Through these programs we train, teach and empower student teams, coaches and volunteers.
With the help of more than 700 volunteers, we work hard to offer high energy, fun, team-based programs and competitions that celebrate science and technology. Kids learn how to work together, solve real-world problems and become leaders. To support High Tech Kids is to invest in our children, to share our passion, and to inspire these future innovators, leaders, collaborators, and problem solvers for the 21st century.
High Tech Kids now serves over 4,500 kids across Minnesota each year. Since our inception in 1999 we have helped over 33,000 students discover the fun in science and technology.
"During the 2008 - 2018 decade, professional, scientific, and technical service jobs will grow by an estimated 34%." ~U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2010 - 2011
Many alumni of our program have gone on to pursue STEM careers in science, technology, engineering and math. We also strive to help our kids learn to be engaged and educated citizens. In order to make responsible, informed decisions that affect us, our society and our environment, we must understand science and math.
High Tech Kids’ programs, training, research workshops and competitions provide adult volunteers the opportunity to share their enthusiasm and expertise with young people in their community. These volunteers encourage kids to explore future STEM career possibilities.
